History

After their THIMUN Qatar 2015 debut, the participating delegates went back to Kabul and launched, against rather incredible odds, an NGO devoted to MUN and Leadership programs. They started their classes at Skatesitan, and then moved into their own. They began to train students in THIMUN Rules and Porcedures, and preparing to host small conferences. Securing funding and developing outreach partners took up most of 2015 and early 2016. A full 9 person delegation participated in THIMUN Qatar in 2016.

HELA sponsored a small Security Council Conference in the fall of 2016. Over 200 applicants applied for one of the 16 delegate spots. Preparation for a second small conference, to be held in February 2017, began immediately. This expanding core of delegates also prepared for the THIMUN Qatar 2017 conference. Thirteen participants travelled from Kabul to attend the conference.
HELA representatives have created partnerships with local and international schools, particularly the John Burroughs Academy in St Louis, Missouri, Taipei American School and students at the American School of Doha.
